A HUGE thank you to the crew at New Bedford Boating Community who let us use their facility and boats. Their mission is to teach positive life values to youth through boating - and, boy, do they go above and beyond that. Not only are these guys teaching kids, helping a community, and just killing it as some of the smartest dudes in both physics, sailing and the sea; but they happen to have huge hearts and are really the kindest of souls! This crew spends their days surrounded in beauty and on lovley sail boats, with great children and many smiles. It's a sorta a paradise when you walk about. Don't be fooled, though, New Bedford isn't just known for its lovely salty air and nice restaurants; it is also one of the highest crime cities in the state. Yes, not everything is perfect even in paradise. The day we arrived the sun was brutal and drained us. That doesn't stop the team members in their the care and constant attention, keeping kids safe and taking care of the facility. The determination and tenacity of the men in charge is done in good cheer and kindness. In the hustle and bustle of our busy fashion shoot, I was personally touched by the honor, commitment, and respect spread from the very top adult to the smallest child. The kids are truly loved and cared for and they love and care for each other, in return. "I'll get your shirt for you." and another asked, "Can I get you a frozen pop?", then opens up the pop for a little one who was too small to even reach the freezer... a little one that happened to be mine. Not even a member of the 'club' but treated like family. The key to this places success is it's an Authentic example of love. This small little community center holds three wondrous fortunes in life: love, sea, and passion. With nothing to gain and only more to add to an already full plate, these men spent the day serving and helping us in any way they could. No task too large. That will always stick with me. How much I appreciate that goodness is beyond measure. It makes me want to pay it forward. It gives me hope. It gives me love. You take this boating community home with you. Maybe it's a little cheesy of me to be so romantic of good deeded men. Maybe I'm crossing over to the 'too corny' side already, but when I got home, I had that hope in me... but what is even cooler than feeling hopeful in a world that can seem without hope at times? A rainbow ran across a pink and blue sky that evening. It reminded me again of the pink and blue boats. The power in good. That little community center doing big things, everyday. IF YOU WANT TO DONTAE TO New Bedford Boating Community Center IN ORDER THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO BLESS CHILDREN, WHO OTHERWISE, WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN BOATING CLASSES OR BE CARED FOR BY THIS SUPPORTING AND LOVING STAFF.
